How we refurbish mobility scooters

Refurbished properly, not simply resold.

Buying a pre-owned scooter should not feel like a gamble. Every refurbished scooter we sell is inspected, tested and serviced before it is offered for sale, and we clearly explain its condition so you know exactly what to expect before it arrives.

The checks every scooter goes through

  1. Initial inspection

    The scooter is assessed before being accepted for sale, so anything that isn't up to standard never reaches you.

  2. Mechanical and electrical checks

    Controls, brakes, steering, lights and key components are tested and put right where needed.

  3. Battery assessment

    Battery condition and charging performance are checked, because the battery is what keeps you moving.

  4. Service and preparation

    Required servicing and repairs are completed and the scooter is made ready for daily use.

  5. Cleaning and condition grading

    The scooter is cleaned and its cosmetic condition is honestly recorded, so the grade matches what you'll see.

  6. Final test before delivery

    The scooter is checked again before it is handed to you — and we set it up and demonstrate it on delivery.

Our condition grades

The grade describes how the scooter looks, not how it works. Every grade below is fully working and has passed the same checks.

Excellent

Fully working, inspected and serviced, with minimal signs of previous use.

Good

Fully working, inspected and serviced, with visible cosmetic wear from normal use.

Fair

Fully working, inspected and serviced, with more noticeable cosmetic marks or wear.

Nova's condition grades describe cosmetic appearance only. Every scooter is fully inspected and serviced, and must meet Nova's mechanical and preparation standards before it is offered for sale.

Clearance is a pricing status, not a condition. A scooter in any condition can be on clearance.

The questions we're asked most

What does refurbished mean at Nova?
Every scooter is inspected, tested and serviced before it is offered for sale, then cleaned and its cosmetic condition honestly graded. The grade describes how it looks — it never means the scooter works any less well.
Is a refurbished mobility scooter reliable?
Each one has to meet Nova's mechanical and safety standards before it goes on sale, whatever its cosmetic grade, and it comes with a Nova warranty. Anything that does not meet the standard is not offered.
What is the difference between Excellent, Good and Fair?
Only how the scooter looks. Excellent has minimal signs of previous use, Good has visible cosmetic wear from normal use, and Fair has more noticeable marks or wear. All three are fully working and serviced.
Are the batteries new?
Battery condition and charging performance are checked as part of the refurbishment, because the battery is what keeps you moving. Ask us about the batteries on any particular scooter and we will tell you what is fitted.
Does a refurbished scooter come with a warranty?
Yes. Every scooter includes a Nova warranty — see our warranty page for what it covers and how to report a fault.
Can I see the actual scooter before I buy?
The photographs on each product page are of that individual scooter, so any notable marks are visible before you order. You can also come and see it at our showroom, or ask about a home demonstration.
